Using The Comedy Fuel System

While I can’t speak for television programming outside the US, if you live in the US and want to actually see for yourself how strange and usual news stories are turned into jokes…

The very best examples can be found on late night talks shows like The Jay Leno Show and Late Night With David Letterman.

I recently noticed that I had flagged 5 different strange and unusual news stories that used for late night monologue jokes just in a period two days.

So, my advice would be is to take some time and review at least the stand-up comedy monologue from the host of any late night talk show hosted by a comedian. Here's why...

Here's What To Look For

You will be able to see for yourself just exactly how they set up the joke (usually they start off with a derivative of the headline).

Then they either:

1. Add another line or two of information about the news story and/or…

2. They then react to the information they have provided from their unique sense of humor and point of view

Now I fully recognize that these late night hosts who do stand-up comedy monologues have comedy writer who produce the monologue material—volumes and volumes of comedy material on a weekly basis.

It really doesn't matter. What does matter is that you observe for yourself how the "jokes" are set-up and executed.

There is an abundance of strange and unusual news stories every week. Not only do these news stories have great comedy potential, they also tend to be interesting too, just by their very nature.

This is a very good way to see the value of the Comedy Fuel System and to study how jokes using strange and unusual news stories are set-up for late night comedy monologues.

But also keep in mind that…

You also have a topic based approach in the Killer Stand-up Comedy System that allows you the freedom to take a strange and unusual news story and talk about it for 2-3 minutes if you are so inclined, depending upon the nature of the story and just how many areas of your “funny bone” it hits.

Just keep this last thing in mind…

Select the strange and unusual news stories that appeal to YOU and really peak your interest and stimulate YOUR sense of humor.

One of the more recognizable so-called comedy “experts” has made it a point to say that if you are telling stories as a comedian, you aren’t doing stand-up comedy. That is 100% false. Obviously, this particular comedy “expert” has never heard of or listened to some popular and hilarious story telling comedians like: - Bill...Read the rest of this entry - 15 hours ago

  • Understanding The Term “Hack” In Stand-up Comedy

One of the terms you will hear as a comedian is hack, which refers to a comedian who delivers stand-up comedy that has already been done extensively by other comedians with similar angles, perspectives or points of view. Unfortunately, the term hack has also become an epithet of sorts, used by many comedians to simply...Read the rest of this entry - 39 hours ago

  • My First Stand-up Comedy Performance Flopped – Now What?

If your first performance as a stand-up comedian didn’t go as well as you would have liked for it to… You are certainly not alone, myself included.
